Behold the fusion of an art form culturally ethnic to Sri Lanka and another traditionally placed in the South of India – Kandyan dance meets Bharatanatyam
Kandy Dance encompasses various dance forms popular and native to the area called Kandy of the Central hills region known as Udarata in Sri Lanka. In Sanskrit terminology it is considered pure dance (nrtta); it features a highly developed system of “tala” (rhythm), provided by cymbals called “thalampataa”.

We are honored to have Miss Sakura Asangika Senaviratne walk us through the incredible amalgamation of incredible art forms from the two countries. Miss Sakura has a plethora of experience being a dancer, choreographer, costume designer and makeup artist to many cultural performances that took place in Columbo, Sri Lanka and is currently the director of Gajithara dance academy.
